What Is GoDaddy Domain Price? A Business Owner's Guide to Domain Pricing

Domain pricing varies more than most people realize. Here's what actually determines what you pay for a GoDaddy domain — and how to make sure you're getting good value.

What Determines Domain Price?

For a full breakdown of GoDaddy's pricing structure, see our companion article: what is GoDaddy domain cost?

The TLD (Top-Level Domain)

The extension at the end of your domain name is the biggest pricing factor:

  • .com — The most popular and widely trusted extension. Standard pricing.
  • .net, .org — Similar pricing to .com
  • .co — Often priced higher than .com
  • .io — Premium pricing, popular with tech startups
  • .ai — Very high demand, premium pricing
  • Country codes (.us, .ca, .co.uk) — Varies by country registry
  • New TLDs (.tech, .agency, .store) — Varies widely

Registration vs. Renewal Price

This is where many business owners get surprised. GoDaddy (and most registrars) offer discounted first-year registration prices to attract new customers. The renewal price — what you pay every year after the first — is typically higher.

Always check the renewal price before registering. A domain that costs $1.99 for the first year might renew at $19.99/year.

Premium Domains

Some domain names are classified as "premium" — either because they're short, contain valuable keywords, or are being sold by a domain investor. Premium domains can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars.

If you search for a domain and see a price that's dramatically higher than normal, it's likely a premium domain.

Promotional Pricing

GoDaddy frequently runs promotions — especially for new customers. If you're registering your first domain, look for current promotions before completing your purchase.

How to Get the Best Value on a GoDaddy Domain

Compare registration and renewal prices: Don't just look at the first-year price. Calculate your 3-year or 5-year cost.

Register for multiple years: Registering for 2–5 years locks in the current renewal rate and reduces the risk of forgetting to renew.

Buy through an authorized reseller: VSF Technology is a GoDaddy authorized reseller and can offer competitive pricing with expert setup included.

Don't overpay for add-ons: Domain privacy is worth the small annual fee. Most other add-ons are optional for small businesses.

What a Domain Includes

Once you've registered, protect your investment by reading do I need domain protection from GoDaddy?

When you register a domain, you get:

  • The exclusive right to use that domain name for the registration period
  • DNS management (ability to point the domain to your hosting, email, etc.)
  • WHOIS registration (your contact info in the public database — use privacy protection to hide it)

A domain alone doesn't include hosting, email, or a website. Those are separate services.

Contact VSF Technology to register your domain with complete setup included.
